This is an acclaimed Christian book on godly boundary-setting. It is written to help you learn how to set healthy boundaries and stop allowing people to take advantage of you. (Although this is a good book for healing from divorce and moving on, it may not address deep-seated issues found in people with personality disorders, etc. Also, some trauma survivors have criticized the authors for being too optimistic about the impacts of setting boundaries, and for appearing reluctant to condone divorce as a healthy consequence for abusive spouses.)
This book specifically addresses setting boundaries with family members and close loved ones. It includes explanations and examples, along with anecdotes to help in learning how to respond to manipulative people in a positive way.
Christians often feel the guilt and responsibility of meeting the needs of unhealthy people in your life. A sibling, parent, spouse, coworker, or friend, can be toxic and use bullying, manipulation and guilt to make you miserable. While you're seeking first to follow God, they're seeking first to distract you. Instead of attempting the impossible task of mollifying toxic people, you can learn to say no to bad patterns and say yes to the good work God has planned. (Study guide available)
